Member Q&A - Theresa_Anim - Art Lead (Animation_

I thrust Theresa into a leadership role without her having prior leadership experience. That's kind of the point of a game jam isn't it? To learn.

She says she got the title by default, but I made a strategic decision  to give her that responsibility so she could leverage her knowledge and experience in a formal animation role.

Like most leaders do, she ended up reluctantly taking on a more visible presence because she saw a need.

I don't regret reaching out to her and then asking her to be our art lead.

Under her direction, the other two members of the art team communicated learning a great deal about the game development process and the challenges that come with it.

[Why Game Development?]

I was inspired by game cinematic cutscenes from the 2000-2010s, and I found that I enjoyed working in 3D digital spaces. I enjoyed seeing how responsive a character is when moving them around, and want to have future players be able to have fun when playing their favorite game.

[What did you learn from the project?]

I learned to be more precise in communicating, and learning how to navigate conversations as a Lead. I learned what is expected from a 3D-made Game Jam and the amount of members needed to make a solid prototype as someone fresh in the industry.

[What was it like volunteering your time in the middle of everything else you had to do?]

My number one fear is biting off more than I can chew, and thankfully, it wasn't quite at that point yet. I am able to realize my limits and while still making sure my team stayed on track to deliver the animation assets.

[Will you be participating in more Game Jams in the future?]

Yes, I would like to participate more in the future once I gain more experience.

[What's next for you?]

My next goal is still the same as before the Game Jam: to continue improving myself and learn more to grow upwards from a junior's perspective. I enjoy soaking up relative knowledge like a sponge.
